                                                  Fourth Class Learning Activities

                                                  Mathletics

Since the beginning of the school year the boys of 4th Class have been using the Mathletics website.  The website is an excellent resource which aims to develop the children's maths skills through fun activities.

The class have one timetabled session of Mathletics a week as well as other times throughout the week during class time.  The children are also set Mathletics as a homework activity on certain occasions.

                                                  Orienteering

The boys of 4th Class along with 5th & 6th classes participated in an orienteering event set on the school's grounds.  Much thanks are due to Mr. Liam O'Brien who organised the event.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the event as can be seen from the pictures.  The boys developed their, running, teamwork & map reading skills. We hope that the event has sparked an interest in orienteering in some of the boys.

An orienteering event will take place on Saturday 28th January 2012.  The event is open to boys in 4th, 5th & 6th class.  For more information please ask your class teacher.

                                                  PE - Hurling

Colin Santry and Cian Buckley returned to the school on Wednesday to help the boys improve their hurling skills.  Luckily the weather was good and we were able to play outside.  The session began with a warm up and the class really enjoyed these games.  The boys then worked on their ball control skills.  For the final activity the children worked on their control of the sliotar while trying to dispossess the other player.

Hurling training will continue each Wednesday  for the next four weeks.  The boys should bring their helmets and hurleys.  If a boy does not have a hurley or helmet then they will be provided with them.

Many boys will be trying hurling for the first time and if they like it then they should contact the local GAA club who's coaching sessions will begin again shortly. We are extremely greatful to Colin, Cian and the GAA club for all the work they are putting in.

                                                  DEAR Time

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ!!!!!   Reading plays a very important part in the children's work in school.  For ten minutes each day after small break the boys read their library books.  The boys also read their library books at various other times throughout the day.  Once a boy has finished a book he writes a book report on it explaining what he like/disliked about the book.

We are very fortunate that we have a very well stocked library in the  class.  All reading levels and areas of interests are catered for.  We also have an extensive range of reference books which are full of interesting and exciting facts.  These books are also helpful in aiding the boys in their studies in a wide variety of subjects throughout the year.
